My Journey

My path to becoming an IT professional wasn't traditional, but every challenge shaped who I am today. In 2014, I faced my first major setback when I didn't advance to grade 9, repeating grade 8 in 2015. I pushed forward and made it to grade 9 in 2016, only to face another obstacle in 2017 when I was dismissed from school on disciplinary grounds during grade 10. This moment could have defined my future negatively, but instead, it became my turning point. I learned a crucial lesson: setbacks don't determine your destination—your response to them does. Rather than giving up, I channelled my energy into finding opportunity, and in 2018, I secured employment with Daltron PNG Limited in their sales and marketing department.

Working at Daltron proved transformative. While selling technological devices, I discovered my true calling—I didn't just want to sell technology; I wanted to understand it, build it, and solve problems with it. This revelation ignited my passion for Information Technology. After two years of valuable sales experience, I made the bold decision to return to school in 2019 to complete my grade 11 and 12 education. Upon completing grade 12 in 2020, I received an offer to study business and accounting at Kokopo Business College. Despite the security of this opportunity, I declined—I had already committed my future to becoming an IT specialist, and nothing would deter me from that goal.

In 2021, my determination paid off when I joined Fonehaus NWTL Group of Companies Limited. Demonstrating my commitment to excellence, I worked night shifts while simultaneously attending morning classes at Datec Learning Center Institute, pursuing a Diploma in System and Network Administration. I started as a sales representative, but within just one month, my technical aptitude caught the attention of my branch manager. Recognizing my potential and aware of my ongoing IT studies, he recommended me for the Help Desk Technician position—a role that would launch my technical career. I embraced this opportunity wholeheartedly, applying classroom theory to real-world problems and developing my troubleshooting expertise while supporting end-users across the organization.

By March 2023, I graduated with my Diploma and had accumulated two years of hands-on experience as a Help Desk Technician. However, due to management issues within the company, I made the difficult decision to leave Fonehaus and seek an environment that aligned with my professional values and growth ambitions. One month later, in April 2023, I joined Faith-G Credit Finance and Investing Limited as a Network Administrator—a significant step up that validated my skills and dedication. Faith-G was a growing company, and for a young professional with a hunger to learn and prove himself, it was the perfect environment. My first year was intensive and project-rich, transforming theoretical knowledge from my diploma into practical, hands-on experience. I led the implementation of a complete PBX telephone system and LAN infrastructure upgrade, reducing costs by 50% through strategic vendor negotiations while delivering enterprise-grade solutions. I worked alongside Telikom PNG's network engineers, absorbing their expertise and expanding my understanding of telecommunications infrastructure.

Over nearly three years with Faith-G Finance, I've evolved from a fresh graduate into a confident, capable IT professional. I've developed comprehensive skills across network infrastructure design and implementation, LAN/WAN management and optimization, enterprise server administration, cybersecurity and network protection, VoIP and telecommunications systems, CCTV surveillance systems, help desk operations and user support, vendor management and cost optimization, project planning and execution, and technical documentation and training. Beyond technical abilities, my journey has cultivated essential professional qualities: resilience in the face of setbacks, a proactive learning mindset that seeks knowledge from experts, adaptability to rapidly changing technology environments, strong problem-solving and analytical thinking, effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and fiscal responsibility with proven cost management success.

My story isn't about a straight path to success—it's about persistence, learning from mistakes, and refusing to let circumstances define my potential. Every setback taught me something valuable: discipline, determination, humility, and the importance of continuous growth. Today, as a Network Administrator, I don't just manage IT infrastructure; I build reliable, secure systems that empower businesses to thrive. I've proven that where you start doesn't determine where you finish, and that passion combined with dedication can overcome any obstacle. My journey from a struggling student to a trusted IT professional demonstrates that success isn't about never falling—it's about getting back up, learning from every experience, and moving forward with purpose. I'm not just an IT specialist; I'm someone who understands that technology serves people, that every problem has a solution, and that the best learning happens when you combine humility with ambition. As I continue my career, I carry these lessons forward, ready to tackle new challenges, embrace emerging technologies, and prove that potential isn't measured by your past—it's built through your persistence and cultivated through your willingness to never stop learning.
